Local Attractions

The Town of Bruderheim — Home of the Bruderheim Meteorite, the largest recovered meteorite fall in Canada — is a progressive and welcoming community with small town values, a variety of services, and a reasonably low cost of living. Plan a visit to the Old Walker School - a four-room schoolhouse built in 1908 of birch veneer that served until 1927 when it was destroyed by fire. A new school was built on the same site and is now a museum and a designated Provincial Historical Resource. The Bruderheim Firehall has a display that showcases a piece of the Bruderheim Meteorite, which fell in 1960. The giant rock shook homes and could be heard over 5,000 square kilometres and about 700 fragments were found in the area. Join Bruderheim’s many social events, including the Indigenous Day in June, Canada Day Celebrations, or the exciting Alberta Model T Races and Fall Festival in September. Follow the paved Bruderheim Heritage Trail that links neighbourhoods and scenic sites throughout the community. Enjoy a skate at the Cosmic Skatepark, or visit the Spring Creek Wetland Interpretive Centre, behind the Town Office, to learn why wetlands and native plants are so important to our quality of life. Those with a love for nature and gardening will be thrilled to explore Queen’s Park at the south end of Queen Street. Thiel’s Greenhouses is the scene for all things green in east-central Alberta. Here you will find seasonal ornamentals, vegetable plants, spectacular container gardens, and hanging baskets. They now offer fresh hydroponic greens year-round! Bruderheim is home to the Studio 6 Hotel—the largest structure of its kind in North America, built out of 80 steel shipping containers (sea-cans).
